We go to Smithy's quite regularly for lunch during the week and I have never been disappointed, the food is always tasty, and you get a decent sized portion that is well presented. The service is always prompt and polite and with a decent wine list and daily specials Smithy's really is hard to beat for a good lunch or a few snacks and drinks after work.

This unusual bar is hidden in a maze of narrow (and eerily quiet) streets between the top of Gray's Inn Road, and King's Cross Road. From King's Cross station, St Chad's Place is first left off Gray's Inn Road, then first right and second left brings you to Leeke Street. It occupies a long, low brick built building originally constructed as stabling for horses that pulled London trams. The interior is pleasantly intimate with bare walls and low lighting. The larger room beyond the bar has been smartened considerably.

Food is served 12 - 2.30 pm and 6 - 9.30 pm and ranges from snacks to a full menu.

Extensive wine list covers the wall on blackboards.

Tucked into the rabbit warren of streets around Kings Cross, this barn of a wine bar is a challenge to your map-reading skills. Once there, there are few complaints about the ‘decent food’ delivered in ‘a timely manner’: moules mariniere, sausages & salads are typical of the straightforward approach. Given the poor dining options in the area, this would be reason enough to drop by, but it’s the wine list that really makes Smithy’s worth a visit. You can choose a decent wine from the everyday list, from Vin de Pays d’Oc for £11 to Château Musar for £29.50, or find an excuse to splash out on the kindly priced fine wine specials.

All life is present under the girders and skylights at Smithy's, around the corner from the King's Cross Pentonville Road exit. Cobbled floors and informal wooden booths fill a couple of basic rooms which ooze warmth and originality. It is packed out at meal times, testament to simple, tasty fare which is ideal for accompanying one of the hundreds of wines on offer. If you want a seat, you are advised to book!

Pick just about any wine-producing country or region in the world, and Smithy's will have something from it: the usual suspects, but also such diverse destinations as Israel, Mexico, Switzerland, and even England. To our knowledge, such a broad range of possibilities cannot be bettered anywhere in the capital. Add to this the relaxed ambience of the venue, and you have a winning combination.

In a world of 'same old, same old' wine-quaffing venues, Smithy's stands out. Apart from anything else, there is a distinct lack of alternative venues in the immediate vicinity! But don't wait until the day you unexpectedly find yourself at King's Cross before making the trip to this unique London quaffing emporium.

An old industrial building, in the insalubrious back streets of King's Cross has recently been converted into a trendy bar. The atmosphere is the grabbing point, as the subtle day picks up to an up-beat night lit by chandeliers and church candles, all attended to by staff described as being 'refreshingly unpretentious'.

Smithy's Wine Bar has an intimate atmosphere with its alcoves, high benches and soft lighting. They also have live Jazz and Blues music. They have a large selection of wines as well as modern British and International dishes. The whole bar can be hired at weekends and they provide outside seating on the terrace.

What a great find! Used to be an old blacksmith shop hence the original cobble stone floor and loads of other features.

They have two ales on tap: London Pride and the guest ale when we visited last week was Summer Lightning (excellent!).

The wine list covers areas from all over the world and they have loads available by the glass.

The home made 8 oz beef burger was very yummy!

Have heard about Smithy's from friends that work around Kings Cross and decided to visit last week. It used to be a stable in the old days hence the cobble stone floor and original horse heaters. What a great find! The minute you walk in you are transported into a different world!

They have a great selection of wines from all over the world and there is a bottle for everyone’s taste. Two ales on tap: London pride and Summer Lightning.

It turns out that the place has recently been taken over and the new owners have created a food menu that is to die for! Favourites: tuna carpaccio with pickled ginger and the best wild mushroom risotto ever.

Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

Highly recommend a visit.

This former blacksmith’s shop bills itself as ‘King’s Cross’s best-kept secret’, and that’s not too self-aggrandising a claim. At the end of a dark, narrow street, a small green door opens on to a vista of exposed air ducts, grey iron supports and authentic cobbles.

Dimly lit, with matt burgundy walls, chunky candles on every table and dark-wood booths, it’s a wine bar that appeals to couples, but not to the exclusion of big groups of both sexes. The clientele is a mixture of trendy designers and grungier twenty-and thirtysomethings.

The well-rounded wine list encompasses bottles of either colour from France and the New World, with plenty by the glass and a pleasing three options for rosé drinkers. Beers on tap include London Pride, Greene King IPA, Brakspear Special and Ruddles. A satisfy-all-tastes food menu completes the experience.
